India has temporarily paused the Indus Waters Treaty—the water-sharing agreement with Pakistan. The decision came in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 tourists and one Kashmiri local. This move could give India the space to expedite key infrastructure projects on its side of the border and rivers that flow here. While the treaty mandates certain obligations, India has also been pushing for amendment to its dispute resolution mechanism.
